Branksome Park dementia home would like to welcome you and talk you through our approach to care as part of the larger LuxuryCare group. For many people who have been diagnosed with dementia, their behaviour will be influenced by fear.
This is caused due to their having a deep sense that something isn’t quite right with their memory or their thinking but not being able to pinpoint what it is, or being unable to properly express it. In turn, this type of fear may create behaviours that are hard to understand because dementia is known to reduce logical thinking ability.
Here at Branksome Park dementia home, all of our staff members have been comprehensively trained to recognise and allay this type of fear in our residents. We are able to identify each person’s abilities that have been least affected by dementia and work to maintain them.
This is done while supporting the resident with the areas that are the weakest as every person’s situation is different and unique. This is why we put so much emphasis on creating personalised care plans that enable people to retain their independence as much as possible.
Our staff members work very closely with the residents, their families and friends as well as doctors who may be involved in supporting them with their specific medical requirements. This is done in order to gather as much information as possible about the person’s personality and needs before they move into our dementia care home in Poole.
At Branksome Park, we are very proud to have introduced the behavioural staging model by Dr. Gemma Jones, which was designed to meet the needs of older people with dementia and other types of memory issues. This is quite different to the methods that are used at other Poole dementia care homes.
The model begins with the simple assumption that every single behaviour has meaning. From there on, our dedicated staff members will try to understand what someone may be trying to tell them through their behaviour.
Our validation method is a truly modern, practical approach that emphasises communication techniques based upon whichever stage the person with dementia has reached. We’re happy to say that this has been very successful at our dementia care home in Poole!
Branksome Park dementia home believes that elderly people with dementia always need to feel secure and comfortable if they are truly going to get the most out of their lives going forward. This is central to the way that we care for our residents.
There are many fun things for the residents to do at our Poole dementia care home, including but not limited to:
